Thursday, July 30th: Food, glorious food!

Thursday morning began with a mini-earthquake.  Madelyn felt it moving her.  I heard the walls creaking and saw the water rumbling but it didn't register what it was until she said something!
Instead of working right away, we went to the post office with Dr. Shin Nishimura so Madelyn could exchange some money.  After that we played in water with kids for an hour.  They had little squirt guns and the other teachers had hoses.  It was fun and a good way to cool off....until it came time to change out of their swim suits.  Apparently, nudity is not a problem with young children in schools.  Cuz everybody stripped down to nothing and the teachers went through a line of naked kids to towel dry each one.  Not what I would expect but I guess that's Japan?
When we had an afternoon break, Madelyn and I decided to eat some Japanese junk food we were given:
Sweet potato desserts we got
at the Birthday dinner on Sunday.

Why is it purple?
It really didn't taste that great.
Kinda sad cuz I like sweet potato.

Each one was packed with a
DO NOT EAT air thing like
you find in shoe boxes.
Weird!

Not sweet junk food.  We didn't eat it
because the packaging translated to
grilled cow tongue. Ew.

Me trying to look Asian with what was
the most promising looking chocolate
yummy thing!  Like a brownie?
Nope, like a tasteless protein bar.
Next was Kids Club snack time...in case we hadn't eaten enough!

Kid trying to be funny.
Sorry kid, not my sense of humor.
This would be better for making a boy laugh.
Right, Eric??

More Kids Club snack.

He does this every day

Goofy kids!
Mom/Dad: how do you say silly or goofy?  Baka right?
After Kids Club, we helped Majelyn Sensei teach English to elementary kids that are bused to the school.  We then were invited to dinner with the Nishimura family!  We went to their "Food Corner" aka Food Court.
