I'm in Japan!

I'm in Japan now! Inzai City in the Chiba prefecture in Japan! Madelyn and I made it there safe and sound. This flight taught me a few things:
1. don't fly Delta for long trips cuz although its a big plane, it's kinda crappy and old (I miss the luxury of Air France)
2. plane "snack" food is better than plane "dinner" food (apple/turkey&cheese sandwich/milano cookies VS. questionable chicken/awkward shrimp i didn't eat/mini salad/weird cookie)
3. I don't like Jack Black movies...there was one big screen on the plane and I don't know who picked the movies but I could only watch about 5 minutes of it before it got annoying
4. on direct flights to Japan, be prepared that the people around you will not speak English (ah let the games of not being able to communicate begin!)
5. on direct flights to Japan, they serve green tea!
I think it might be easier adjusting to 13 hour difference than like 6 hours....cuz really its just 1 hour later than MI after you switch the AM to PM and such. But no promises yet, we'll have to just wait and see :)
We made it though customs without a hitch and Minako-san and Shuichi-san were waiting for us. (Minako went to SAU and Shuichi is her brother-in-law). It was an hour drive from the airport, so we got to see quite a bit of suburban and country life. The speed limits are painted on the roads which are quite narrow. The trees are so lush and green…it’s gorgeous! The GPS in Minako’s car warned her of curves in the road. It made me laugh. Our room is interesting…very pink walls throughout the building. It’s a lot of unexpected things. Like I was told the internet was wireless, as I‘m writing this we have nothing (if you‘re reading this, we‘ve obviously found some form of internet). I was told we’d live on the main floor in a room with a kitchen, we live on the second floor and the kitchen is in a different building as is the shower. It’s quite frazzling not knowing anything or what to expect so please pray for flexibility and patience!
I’ll try to post some pictures in a few days, once we get moved in and situated. We’re going to be picked up for church at 8:30am on Sunday. Then there will be lunch with church people, grocery shopping time, and dinner with Rev. Shin Nishimura and his wife Keiko Nishimura (Minako’s parents). For now, I’m going to say goodnight!
NOTE: the apostrophe key on this computer is in an odd place, so if I write "I.m" instead of writing "I'm" etc. that's why :P

  1. Welcome to Japan. Stay away from the poisonous blow fish unless prepared by a certified chef....unless, that is, you're feeling adventurous....you crazy American. Glad you arrived safely! Jim
